Sound Mind TherapyTherapy & clinical supervision
Therapy & getting started

Support for what you’re carrying.

You can bring the worry, the difficult memories, the relationship pattern, or the feeling that something needs to change. We’ll work together to understand it and choose a useful next step.

Areas of focus

Your concerns set the starting point.

People of all identities, cultures, beliefs, and life experiences are welcome here. I take time to understand what matters to you and how you see the world.

Anxiety, trauma & adult ADHD

Individual therapy can explore worry, avoidance, feeling on guard, painful memories, and the ways past experiences affect life now. We build understanding and useful skills at a pace that fits you.

With adults, I specialize in ADHD patterns. We can work on getting started, organizing and following through, managing time, feeling overwhelmed, and the ways these patterns affect emotions and relationships. Together, we develop practical strategies that fit your daily life.

Couples & interpersonal relationships

Relationships are a central focus of this practice. We can look at recurring arguments, emotional distance, trust, boundaries, parenting stress, and what each person needs. Relationship work is available both individually and as a couple.

School-age children & teens

Support for anxiety, trauma-related concerns, emotional regulation, and relationships at home or school. We discuss developmental fit, the young person’s readiness, and how caregivers can support the work before beginning.

Parents & families

Practical help with routines, behavior, communication, and family patterns. Parent involvement can be an important part of helping a child use new skills beyond the session.

The first steps

From an inquiry to a working plan.

  1. Check the fit and practical details. Discuss what you need, appointment options, session length, fees or coverage, and any access needs.
  2. Understand the agreement. Review consent, confidentiality and its limits, communication, payment, and cancellation expectations before beginning.
  3. Make room for your experience. The first session explores what brought you in, relevant history, current concerns, strengths, and what you want to be different.
  4. Choose goals and next steps. Agree on a useful focus and how to review whether the work is helping.
During sessions

Understanding, practice, and feedback.

Understand a pattern

Explore how thoughts, emotions, behaviors, experiences, and relationships connect. Consider the purpose a response has served and what you would like to change.

Try something useful

Practice a coping skill, examine an interpretation, work through a relationship interaction, or plan a manageable step between appointments.

Review what helps

Bring back your experience. Your feedback, daily functioning, and agreed goals help determine what to continue or adjust.

The pace and focus depend on your needs. You can ask questions about the approach, share concerns, and discuss a change in direction.

How we may work together

Approaches with a purpose.

Treatment draws on your needs, goals, preferences, and the approaches that fit the situation. I explain what we’re trying and why, and we review how it is working for you.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy · CBT

Explore connections among thoughts, emotions, and behavior, and practice changes in everyday situations.

DBT-informed skills

Practice mindfulness, emotion regulation, distress tolerance, and ways to communicate needs and maintain boundaries.

Trauma-focused work · TF-CBT

Trauma-focused approaches are chosen for the person’s needs and readiness. TF-CBT is among the structured approaches used in work with children, adolescents, and caregivers.

Emotionally focused & attachment-oriented work

Understand the emotional needs and interaction patterns beneath relationship conflict, and explore new ways to respond and connect.

Child anxiety approaches

Coping Cat and the CAT Project provide structured ways to develop skills for anxiety. MATCH supports flexible, organized treatment planning around a young person’s needs.

Parent & family approaches

Training includes Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), Group Triple P, parent-management strategies, and family systems work. We discuss the format and fit for your family.

Unified Protocol

A structured way to examine emotional experiences and patterns of responding across a range of concerns.

Practical learning and reflection

Psychoeducation, behavioral practice, strengths, and feedback help connect the ideas in therapy to the life you are living.

Standards of care

What guides the work.

Your goals and informed choice

Clear explanations of the process, fees, privacy, and available options help you make decisions about your care.

Careful clinical reasoning

Assessment considers your history, strengths, context, and possible explanations. Understanding is revisited as new information emerges.

Evidence and individual fit

Approaches are considered in light of research, clinical experience, your preferences, and the situation in front of us.

Privacy and professional boundaries

Confidentiality, its limits, record handling, and communication expectations are explained as part of informed consent.

Feedback and accountability

Goals and progress are reviewed. Concerns about the therapy relationship or the approach deserve time and attention.

When your needs call for another service or level of care, we discuss options and the steps involved in connecting with appropriate support.
